Our Local Marine Life
a Noyo Center for Marine Science event
Saturday, September 17, 2022, 2-3 pm
Kids! Learn how to step up and get involved in the health of our local coast and streams!
Historically, the Mendocino coast has harbored some of the most diverse marine life in the world. In the last decade, the “perfect storm” caused by the changing climate led to crash of most of our local Kelp forests. This coincided with the local extinction of the sunflower sea star, the decline of abalone populations, and population boom of the over-grazing purple urchins.
During the program, we will…
Make a Sunflower Star Craft
Experience Sea Urchins in a tank
Touch and feel animals and plants
Look at books about Marine Life
