The Mendocino County Library offers many tools for educators. From Educator Library cards, class visits, lesson plans, instructional tools, and resources for your students, we have something for everyone! Browse our collections below.
Educator Cards are a special privilege granted to teachers and educators who work for institutions and facilities that educate or care for children in Mendocino County. Teachers can have an Educator Card account in addition to a regular library account.
Educators may borrow up to 50 items at a time for classroom use for up to six weeks (42 days). We will forgive the loss or damage of up to four items per school year.

We welcome teachers and students for a class visit to the library! Our Librarians can also visit your school to present the many resources that the library offers. Please contact your local library to connect with a Librarian.
Did you know that Mendocino County Library has an Outreach Vehicle stocked with books and literacy kits which can be scheduled to visit your event? You can fill out the form online.
TeachingBooks provides a suite of instructional resources including multimedia content to complement children's and young adult books. Resources include audiobook readings, author videos, book discussion guides and lesson plans for over 40,000 books in English and Spanish. Are your students using Britannica School? You can find lesson plans, tutorials, and articles correlated to State Curriculum Standards by clicking on the Educator link on the Britannica Elementary, Middle, or High School websites. Sora is a student reading app created to excite kids about reading and remove distractions to promote a focus on learning. Sora empowers students to borrow age-appropriate ebooks and audiobooks from both their school AND local public library digital collections. The Teacher Reference Center from Ebsco is a research database for educators that offers indexing and abstracts for more than 230 peer-reviewed journals. Subjects include curriculum development, instructional media, literacy standards, teacher education, best practices, and more.
NoveList Plus is a premiere powerful resource for reading recommendations that allows readers to use a favorite title, series or author as a template to discover other authors and titles of interest. Users can browse theme-oriented book lists at every reading level, and search for intriguing authors and award winning titles. You can learn more about books and authors through Feature Articles, Book Discussion Guides, and BookTalks. For those interested in searching for materials for younger readers, such as picture books, chapter books, and young adult titles, NoveList K-8 Plus provides a database of materials aimed specifically at this group.
Children's Core Collection from Ebsco is the ideal collection development and curriculum support resource for anyone who works with children’s books. Absolutely wonderful for school libraries and children’s departments.
Primary Search from Ebsco is a full-text database of carefully curated content for elementary school libraries. It includes full text for the most popular children's magazines, e-books, and easy-to-read encyclopedic entries written specifically for kids. Additional content in Primary Search Reference eBook Collection includes reference e-books from top children's publishers.
Middle Search Plus from Ebsco offers ongoing full text for the most popular magazines for middle schools, including Newsweek, Scholastic Science World, TIME for Kids, Science News, Sports Illustrated Kids, and more.
ProQuest Schools & Educators Complete is an eBook subscription database of over 13,000 titles that supports English Language Arts, Science, Math, Social Studies, Health, Physical Education, Information Literacy and Technology. (Grades 9+, possibly some content for Middle School, also includes professional development content for faculty)
PebbleGo Science is a database specifically geared toward the needs of K-2 learners. It’s also brimming with educator resources for educators and parents! PebbleGo is correlated to curriculum standards and includes ideas for lesson plans, activities, content maps, professional development workshops, and more.
Gale offers a few databases that educators can use for science classes. Gale Interactive: Science allows users to delve deeper into science, by exploring 3D models where they can zoom in, rotate or pull them apart.
Gale In Context: Environmental Studies focuses on the physical, social, and economic aspects of environmental issues and includes sources such as topic summaries, scholarly articles, statistics, news and magazine articles, and more.
National Geographic for Kids is an online database housing books, videos, magazines and pictures produced by National Geographic for children.
Alexander Street is a diverse collection of Music, Dance and Theatre audio and video content, from instruction to performance. Leading content providers include the National Theatre, Royal Shakespeare Company, Qwest TV, Smithsonian, L.A. Theatre Works, Broadway On-Demand, and many more. Some titles include Teacher Packs which have activities and lesson prep for educators. All titles are approved for classroom viewings with no copyright restrictions.
Kids Literacy Kits are a collection of books and activities with a central theme that will help you create significant learning experiences with children. Each branch of the Mendocino County Library will have their own selection of Kid’s Literacy Kits. Kits can be checked out and returned to your local branch.
Chromebook laptops are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Call or go into your local branch to borrow one.
