Story Time Guidelines

The goal of story time is to encourage a love of language and literature in all its forms, creating positive interactions with books for the parents and children to experience together within a group setting.

  • SAFETY: All children must be accompanied by an adult and all adults must be accompanied by children.

  • PARTICIPATE with your child. Join in the songs and activities and show your child how fun it is for both of you! Library story time is the perfect setting to foster positive group interactions.

  • Be PATIENT: Let your child be your guide. Some children need to observe the first few visits until they are comfortable enough to participate.

  • Be RESPONSIVE: If your child is overstimulated and needs a break from story time, please leave the story time experience and join in again when your child is ready.

  • EXPLORE: Before or after story time, visit the library!

  • CHECK OUT BOOKS AND MATERIALS: Take the story time experience home!

For additional information on behavior in the Library, please see the Standards of Behavior.
