Using Hoopla for the first time:

1. In your web browser, open the Hoopla registration page and click "Let's Go!" or you can download the Hoopla Digital app for iOS or Android or smart TV and click "Sign Up."
2. Choose your Library or Search for Mendocino County Library.
3. Fill out the following information to set up an account: 
   • Enter your Mendocino County Library Card
   • Enter your Mendocino County Library Card PIN
   • Email address
   • Create a password
4. Click Sign Up
5. You are now signed up for Hoopla! You can start browsing the collection and borrowing items.

Returning Hoopla users:

1. If you have already created a Hoopla account, use a web browser to Log In with your email address and Hoopla password, or you can download the Hoopla Digital app for iOS or Android or smart TV and click "Log In."
2. If you can't remember your Hoopla password, click on the "Forgot Password" link to reset your password.
3. Start browsing!

*Please note: If your library card number or PIN changes, you will need to update this within your Hoopla Digital account settings.

What are the limitations?

Hoopla Digital items are available to Mendocino County Library general cardholders with the following limitations:

• Patrons are limited to 4 Hoopla Digital checkouts per month (set by Mendocino County Library Admin – this limitation may be raised or lowered in the future)
• The borrower's library card must be in good standing (i.e. No blocks or restrictions and less than $20.00 in overdue fines on the account)
• Borrowing lengths of time are:
  • 72 hours (3 days for movies and TV)
  • 7 days for music albums
  • 21 days for eBooks, comics, and eAudiobooks
• *Tip - try borrowing a Hoopla BingePass. It will give you unlimited access to collections of great online content for 7 days...all with just a single borrow! Browse the BingePass collection online or in the Hoopla app in the "More" section.
• *Tip - Look out for Hoopla Bonus Borrows which will be available the last seven days of each month. Choose from select titles without using your monthly borrows! Look for the Hoopla Bonus Borrows banner in the app or on the Hoopla website.
  
  

Checkout limit note:

The number of Hoopla checkouts each month may vary depending on usage. The library pays for each Hoopla checkout, and the library has a yearly budgeted amount for digital items.  Please note as of July 2020, due to the increasing popularity of Hoopla, the individual checkout limit will be reset to 4 per month.

Hoopla Digital Mobile App

You can find the Hoopla Digital Mobile App and download it for free by clicking on a link below or searching your device’s App Store or Channel Store as follows:

• iPhones - Visit the iTunes App Store. Search for Hoopla Digital.
• Android Phones - Visit Google Play Store. Search for Hoopla Digital.
• Amazon Kindle Fire - Visit Amazon Kindle Fire Store.  Search for Hoopla Digital.
• Smart TVs - Includes Roku, Android TV, Apple TV, Chromecast, and Fire TV.

I tried to sign up for Hoopla but it says I'm already registered. What do I do?

This means you already have a Hoopla account. You don't need to sign up for a new Hoopla account, you just need to log into your existing account using your email address and Hoopla password.

I forgot my Hoopla password. What do I do?

You can go to the Hoopla log in page and click "Forgot Password." Then follow the steps to reset your password.

I'm logged into Hoopla, but it says I can't borrow any items or that I need to be "authenticated." What do I do?

Go to your Hoopla account settings by clicking on the gear symbol in the top right corner. Click on "Library Settings" and make sure you are registered with Mendocino County Library. Type in your library card and PIN number, and click "Save Library Settings." Then try to borrow an item again.

I have two library cards, one from Mendocino and one from another library system. Can I use both cards with Hoopla?

At this time, Hoopla only allows one library card per account. However, the card can be switched manually in the Hoopla settings. You can also create separate Hoopla accounts (one for each card) under a separate email address.

Can I download items for offline use?

Downloads are only available on the Hoopla mobile app. To download borrowed content for offline use, simply tap on the "Tap here to download" button on the title details page. Titles on the Windows and MacOS platforms are only available for streaming and require an internet connection.

What types of devices can I use Hoopla with?

Hoopla works with iOS and Android mobile devices, Amazon Kindle Fire tablets, Windows and MacOS, most Chromebook platforms, Roku, Android TV, Apple TV, Chromecast, and Fire TV.

What's a BingePass?

A hoopla BingePass gives you unlimited access to collections of great online content for 7 days...all with just a single borrow! Includes collections of digital magazines, eBooks, documentaries, comics, video courses, puzzles, and more. Browse the BingePass collection online or in the Hoopla app in the "More" section.

Once you complete your BingePass borrow, you'll have immediate access to the content for seven days. Simply visit the Borrowed section of "My hoopla" when you want to stream your selections.

BingePass collections may not appear on the Hoopla app on smart TVs. However, you can access the Hoopla app on your smartphone, and stream/screen mirror to your smart TV to watch BingePass videos on a TV screen.

Why does Mendocino County Library provide streaming media?

Streaming content from the internet is quickly becoming the way people get their movies, television shows and other information. We need to give our customers the information in the media format they want and use.
